More Sightseeing in Bogota

We went to check out one of the seven wonders of Bogota - the underground Salt Cathedral. The cathedral was carved inside an active mine in the early 50s. As you walk into the dark and eerie tunnel, you come across praying stations or small chapels. There are 14 of them representing the stations of the cross and different points of the life of Jesus. Everything is carved out of salt. Also in the tunnel, there are balconies which overlooks the main room of the cathedral. Regular mass service and various events such as weddings are held in the cathedral as it can hold up to 10,000 people!
