We stayed a total of 3 nights in the province and that wasn't necessarily by choice. Who would've thought that Ontario was SO big! Northern Ontario reminded me a lot like BC and Alberta, mountainous and lots of trees. Not what I expected of Ontario! It was actually quite beautiful and scenic but obviously not an area well travelled. We were looking forward to camping by the lakes as that's what Ontario is known for. Again, we had a hard time looking for campsites - the first Ontario Travel Information office we hit was closed! There was some really bad private sites with garbage everywhere which we refused to stay at and then there was the typical KOA sites with a plot of land and a gizzilion RVs right off the highway. One of the provincial sites we stayed at called Sleeping Giant was "remote", a peninsula approximately 40 kms south of the highway. Sue made friends with a deer nearby our site and we heard all sorts of birds (and animals) early in the morning. Pretty cool!
In the end, we drove a total of 5000 kms in 9 days across the country. It's a great way to spend quality time with a friend sharing and singing and doing all sorts of crazy things together!!
